Liverpool's hopes of progressing from Champions League group H took a knock when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Basel tonight.

Czech striker Milan Baros fired Liverpool into a 34th minute lead after exchanging passes with Emile Heskey.

Julio Hernan Rossi, who netted in Basel's opening win over Spartak Moscow, equalised three minutes before half-time with a left-foot finish through the legs of goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

Liverpool hit the woodwork three times in the first 45 minutes, twice through John Arne Riise and once through Baros.
