Gardai believe the seizure of 48 kg of cannabis resin in Limerick on Monday night is linked to another of drugs and weapons in the city last week.

A woman in her 50s and her 29-year-old daughter were being questioned last night about the cannabis which was found in a car boot at Dooradoyle Road on Monday night.

Last week gardai seized two handguns and an estimated £30,000 worth of drugs on waste land near a housing estate in the city. The drugs, which included cannabis, 500 ecstasy tablets and a substance believed to be amphetamine, have a street value of about £480,000.

The gang is believed to work closely with members of another Limerick criminal gang, as well as co-operating with Cork and Dublin drug dealers.
