An environmentalist was given leave by the High Court yesterday to seek orders next week against Shell and another company, Lennon Quarries Ltd, requiring them to cease all works on the site of the proposed Corrib gas field at Bellynagelly South, Ballinaboy Bridge, Co Mayo.
In an application to be made next Wednesday, Peter Sweetman is also seeking an order prohibiting Shell from carrying out works, other than in accordance with planning permission, on lands at the location.
He wants a declaration that all works carried out by Shell at Bellynagelly South are unauthorised, unlawful and in breach of planning permission. Among other orders being sought is one requiring Shell to restore to their original condition lands upon which allegedly unauthorised development has taken place.
