Leicester 13 Llanelli 12
Munster will meet pre-tournament favourites Leicester in next month’s Heikenen Cup final after the defending champions overcame Llanelli in Nottingham today.
The English league champions required a dramatic last-minute penalty from fullback Tim Stimpson to earn a 13-12 victory over the Welsh side and book a place in Cardiff on May 25th.
With his side facing defeat, Stimpson struck an astonishing penalty from 58 metres which hit the bar and then the upright before going over.
Four penalties from Welsh international flyhalf Stephen Jones on a rainy day at the City Ground had put Llanelli within seconds of reaching their first final before the remarkable finish.
Scrumhalf Harry Ellis scored a second-half try for Leicester and Stimpson kicked a total of two penalties and a conversion for the victory.
