Johannesburg - The South African Labour Court has delivered a landmark ruling with potentially adverse implications for the affirmative action policies adopted by the ruling ANC to compensate for historical injustices suffered by black people, writes Patrick Laurence. Judge Adolph Landman has upheld a decision by an arbiter declaring the appointment of a coloured woman ahead of a better qualified white woman in the electricity utility, Eskom, an unfair practice.
