The Labour Party has called for the resignation of Mr Dermot O’Leary from the board of Aer Rianta, following the revelation that he interceded to provide special treatment for Liam Lawlor at Dublin Airport.
Earlier this week, Fianna Fáil activist Mr O’Leary denied suggestions of his involvement as "complete falsehoods".
The party leader, Mr Ruarí Quinn, this evening demanded a statement from Minister for Public Enterprise, Mrs O'Rourke, on the matter.
He said it raises serious questions about Mr O’Leary’s suitability to serve on the board.
"I believe he should not continue to serve," he added. "What these events show and what Minister O'Rourke does not want to admit is that despite all he has done, Liam Lawlor remains a member of the Fianna Fáil political family, as his loyal voting record in the Dáil also shows."
Mrs O’Rourke said in a statement tonight that she would meet the chairman of Aer Rianta, Mr Noel Hanlon next week, and would also discuss the matter with the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Minister for Finance.
