COMEDIANS from around the world have arrived in Kilkenny for the Carlsberg Cat Laughs comedy festival, which kicks off tonight. The five-day event will feature 62 comedians playing 86 shows in 12 venues across Kilkenny city over the holiday weekend.

This year’s festival features shows from Irish stars Jason Byrne, Des Bishop and Tommy Tiernan, and from US performers including Rich Hall and Reginald D Hunter and Lee Mack and Ross Noble from Britain.

Event organiser Liz Bailey said big crowds were expected over the five days. “We have some special features lined up this year including a look at the funniest clips on YouTube hosted by David O’Doherty and Barry Murphy.”

The festival, now in its 15th year, gets under way tonight with shows featuring Jason Byrne, Rich Hall and Dom Irrera.
