MORE THAN 200 jobs are to be offered at a major careers event in one of the State’s worst unemployment blackspots next week.
The Jobs and Careers Expo was announced yesterday in Waterford by the local chamber of commerce. It will offer jobs in a broad range of business sectors in the city and across the wider south-east region.
The event takes place on Friday October 21st, a fortnight since the closure of the TalkTalk call centre in Waterford’s IDA industrial estate and the loss of 575 jobs.
More than 20 blue-chip companies from around the region will be represented at the Expo in the Tower Hotel, including Genzyme, Glanbia, Statestreet, Sunlife Financial, Schivo Group and KPMG.
Waterford chamber president Anne Marie Caulfield said the range of companies participating meant there would be job opportunities in a wide cross-section of business. “We would encourage all job-seekers to attend this event and to bring plenty of copies of their CVs,” she said.
Human resource professionals will also be present to give help with CV and interview preparation at a series of free seminars.
“The southeast has had its share of hardship on the jobs front over the last year and this initiative is a real stepping stone in helping getting the region back to work,” Ms Caulfield said.
The expo is aimed at those who have lost their jobs as well as graduates looking for a new placement along with anyone who wants to “upskill” or change career path
