A heroin addict who falsely imprisoned and robbed two nuns in their 70s was jailed for seven years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday by Judge Elizabeth Dunne.

Michael Cahill (43), with addresses at Raheen Park, Ballyfermot, and Holyfield Buildings, Rathmines, pleaded guilty to two counts each of false imprisonment and robbery at the Sisters of the Assumption premises in Cork Street, The Coombe, last November 26th.

Judge Elizabeth Dunne heard that the two nuns, aged 74 and 77, had been both tied up and robbed. In imposing sentence she took into account the fact that Cahill, who suffered from the HIV virus as well as hepatitis C, had a bleak future.
