Israeli tanks entered three villages in southern Gaza and destroyed the house of a suspected militant overnight.

Doctors say four people were injured by Israeli gunfire during the raid on the villages about six miles east of the city of Khan Younis.

The area is regarded as a stronghold of the militant Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and the local Popular Resistance Front.

Witnesses claimed there was gunfire between local gunmen and soldiers and a large explosion next to an Israeli tank, apparently a bomb planted by Palestinians.
