Hockey:  The Irish senior women's hockey team made a perfect start to their Celtic Cup campaign today with a 1-0 win over Scotland.

Defender Clare Parkhill (26) scored the all-important goal after 46 minutes to edge the win against last year's runner-up.

Ireland are bidding to win the Celtic Cup for the fourth successive year and play hosts France tomorrow before meeting Wales on Sunday.

The competition marks the start of the build-up ahead of the next year's European Championships in Manchester.

The Irish men also open their campaign today and are currently in action against Scotland.
