Ex-manager’s bid to wind up Waterford United Football Club football club adjourned

Stephen Henderson claims club is insolvent

An application to wind up Waterford United Football Club has been adjourned for two weeks. Stephen Henderson, former manager of the club’s first team,  had petitioned the High Court to wind up WUFC Operations Ltd, the company operating the League of Ireland First Division club.

Mr Henderson, The Spires, Carrignafoy, Cobh, Co Cork, took a case against the club following his dismissal in 2011 and obtained a judgment last year which has not been satisfied.

He claims the company, based at the Regional Sports Centre, Cork Road, Waterford, is insolvent and unable to pay its debts as they fall due and should be wound up and a liquidator appointed.

Yesterday, when the matter was briefly mentioned to the court, Ms Justice Mary Laffoy agreed to adjourn it for two weeks to allow new solicitors for the club, who had just come into the case last week, time to address matters.

The petition is brought on the basis the company has not satisfied a €37,600 judgment made in favour of Mr Henderson at Dungarvan Circuit Court last December and affirmed by the High Court last March.
