The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) has decided to pursue a claim for reinstatement and compensation for the sacked Dunboyne Gaelscoil principal Mr Tomás Ó Dúlaing.
Mr Ó Dúlaing was fired from his post following a dispute over the teaching of religion at the inter-denominational Co Meath primary school.
In a statement this evening, the INTO said its Central Executive Committee had decided to pursue a claim through the Employment Appeals Tribunal. The INTO said it will also demand that the vacant Dunboyne post not be filled pending the outcome of this action.
The INTO described Mr Ó Dúlaing’s dismissal as a "disproportionate and unwarranted action".
Since his dismissal Mr Ó Dúlaing has secured a new post at a school in Lucan near Dublin.
