Dr Geraghty asked Insp Hughes: "Has somebody been charged?"

The inspector replied: "Yes."

Garda John Small then read a statement by the deceased's brother, Patrick Murphy.

The inquest heard that Mr Murphy identified his dead brother's body in Blanchardstown hospital between 10am and 11am on November 1st, 2004. Summarising Dr Declan Gilsenan's postmortem, Dr Geraghty gave the cause of death as shock due to blood loss caused by a stab wound to the left side of chest and abdomen.

Expressing his sympathy to the Murphy family, Dr Geraghty adjourned the inquest indefinitely.
