Jakarta - Indonesia said yesterday it would release dozens of political prisoners, including the last 18 East Timorese independence activists left in its jails. About 90 prisoners were to be released yesterday, ministers said in an announcement marking Human Rights Day.

The release will leave only a handful of political detainees still in custody after a series of such releases since former president Suharto fell from power more than 18 months ago.
