An Indonesian who allegedly helped make the Bali bomb is a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network, Indonesia's defence minister said today.
"The Bali bombing is obviously linked to the al-Qaeda network. This is my conviction," Mr Matori Abdul Jalil told reporters. "The way it was carried out, I'm convinced it is the work of al-Qaeda".
The man leading Indonesia's investigation into the Bali bombing, police Maj Gen I Made Mangku Pastika, said earlier today no connection had been found so far between the man who has allegedly confessed to involvment in the bombing and the regional terror network.
Maj Pastika said "Amrozi" had admitted helping build the main bomb because he hated Americans and wanted to "kill as many Americans as possible".
Amrozi, who was arrested on Tuesday and flown to Bali for interrogation, is the last known owner of the van that exploded outside the Sari Club, killing more than 190 people.
