A group of Indian nationals who were detained at Shannon airport almost a fortnight ago have had their period of detention extended by a further eight days.

The group of 25, which disembarked from a flight to Cuba, had initially declared themselves as asylum seekers. However, Gardai said the group was part of a criminal conspiracy.

At a hearing in Limerick yesterday evening, Judge Tom O’Donnell extended the group’s period of detention by a further eight days.
