Swimming death in Co Down
Three men died in separate incidents in Northern Ireland yesterday. One man died after attempts to resuscitate him failed when he got into difficulties while swimming in Strangford Lough, Co Down.
A 24-year-old man died in hospital in Enniskillen yesterday after the car he was driving was involved in a collision in Co Tyrone. In Co Armagh a man in his 60s died after the three-wheel vehicle he was driving crashed on the Ballygroobany Road in Richill at around 2pm.
Meanwhile, a cyclist was killed yesterday near the village of Annacotty outside Limerick city.
RSPCA warning on puppy trade
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in London claimed yesterday that 1,000 puppies a week were being imported from Ireland into Wales for sale to British pet lovers.
Mother of TD and MEP dies
Kitty Aylward, the mother of Fianna Fáil MEP Liam Aylward and TD Bobby Aylward, has died at her home in Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny. The removal of the remains will take place today from her home at Knockmoylan to All Saints' Church at 8pm.
