Woman (36) killed in crash on motorway

A 36-year-old woman died when the car she was driving struck a lamp post on the M1 northbound near Gormanston, Co Meath yesterday morning.

The woman was alone in the car when the crash occurred shortly after 9am. She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where she was pronounced dead. Gardaí had not released her name last night.

In Co Tyrone, a man died in a single-vehicle accident, according to the PSNI. The crash happened near the village of Castlecaufield around 4am yesterday.

Man shot in leg in docklands

A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after being shot in the leg in Dublin's docklands. He was found by a Garda patrol at about 10pm on Sunday, lying on a footpath in West Road, East Wall.

He is understood to be from the area and was taken to the Mater hospital. His injuries are not said to be life threatening. Gardaí believe he was shot with a handgun.

Choir to sing in Leinster House

A chamber choir which attracted a large crowd at the Electric Picnic in Co Laois at the weekend, are to sing in Leinster House later this month as part of Dublin's culture night.

The Mornington Singers will perform on Friday, September 19th.

The event will be open to the public.

Rock to star at comedy festival

Comedian Chris Rock has been confirmed as one of the main attractions of the Bulmers International Comedy Festival which began yesterday. Rock, who hosted the Oscars in 2005, will give two shows at the Olympia Theatre this Thursday, starting at 7.30pm and 11.45pm. English actor Ricky Tomlinson, who became a household name as Jim Royle in the Royle Family, will play the Olympia on Friday night.

Fun run in park to aid homeless

The 25th anniversary of the Dublin Simon Fun Run takes place on October 11th in the Phoenix Park to raise funds for emergency accommodation for the city's homeless.

There will also be two short races for children aged under 12.
