RAF airbase incident linked to sex assault

A breach of security at RAF Aldergrove, near Belfast International Airport, has been linked to a nearby serious sexual assault.

Yesterday morning a black car was driven through the perimeter fence at the military base shortly before a sex attack on a 14-year-old girl took place in Crumlin, Co Antrim.

A car which had been stolen on Tuesday morning in Lisburn, Co Antrim, was recovered from north Belfast later in the afternoon. Police said they believe the incidents are linked and are questioning two men.

Body found on mountain

The search for a missing Belfast man has been called off following the discovery of a body at the foot of Mount Brandon in Co Kerry.

Tony Crickard (80), from west Belfast, was last seen at Brandon Peak, near Dingle, on Friday evening.

Man's remains to be flown back

Preparations are being made today to fly home the remains of missing Northern Ireland man Stephen King (28) from Melbourne, Australia.

The bricklayer from Keady, Co Armagh, went missing on July 19th while on a working holiday in the country.

The body was discovered in the Yarra river, in the docklands area of the city, close to the Irish pub in which he was last seen.

Injured skydiver brought home

The Co Tyrone skydiver who was seriously injured when his parachute malfunctioned during a jump in California last week, arrived back in Belfast yesterday.

Paul McMahon(29), a fitness and sports instructor from Drumlegagh, Barnescourt, Omagh, sustained multiple fractures when he crashed into a drop zone at Marietta Desert.

Mr McMahon was in a coma for three days in the Wilderman Hospital, California, but returned to the North yesterday morning in a specialist air ambulance accompanied by two nurses and a doctor.

Kilbarrack post office robbery

Gardaí in Raheny, Dublin, are investigating a robbery at Kilbarrack post office yesterday morning.

Two men entered the post office at about 11.40am and demanded money. One was armed with what is believed to be a handgun, and the other had a knife and a hammer.

The thieves escaped with a sum of cash and the Nissan car they used was later found abandoned.

Sex assault on girl in Swords

Gardaí in Swords, Co Dublin, are looking for information about an assault which took place in the town at 2.40am last Sunday, writes Martin Ryan.

A 17-year-old girl was walking through a park near the River Valley Estate when she was sexually assaulted by a man.

He was described as 18 to 19 years of age withdark hair, a black baseball cap and a black sweatshirt top with a zip.

Man on child porn charges

A Co Tyrone man appeared in court yesterday charged with dozens of child porn offences.

Stephen Campbell (39), Annaloughan Road, Augher, was accused of 65 counts of making indecent photographs of children.

He did not speak during a preliminary inquiry hearing. He was returned for trial at Belfast Crown Court and released on continuing bail.
