Guilty plea in dangerous driving case
A Longford woman has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of two children and serious bodily harm of two other minors, in Longford Circuit Court yesterday.
Mary Carberry, Clonguish Court, Newtownforbes, Co Longford, was the driver of a black BMW 116 which crashed into an embankment at Tinnynare in Edgeworthstown on November 26th, 2007, killing Ava Carberry (6) and Michaela Logan (9) from Kilcock, Co Kildare.
Faith Carberry (8) and John Logan (4) were also seriously injured in the crash.
The defendant also pleaded guilty to failing to give a blood specimen at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Athlone, driving a vehicle without insurance and driving without holding a driving licence.
Judge Anthony Kennedy noted a psychiatric report on the defendant which indicated she was an alcoholic. He remanded the defendant on continuing bail until October 6th for sentencing.
Bail for youth (16) over cocaine haul
A 14-year-old boy who was caught holding over €25,000 worth of cocaine has been remanded on bail pending sentence by Judge Katherine Delahunt at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The now 16-year-old told gardaí that he had been paid €50 to store the drugs behind his bed, in a vent in his room and in the rafters in a garden shed. The teenager pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs for sale or supply at his Dublin home in 2007.
