Bullock files for divorce after five years

LOS ANGELES – US Oscar- winning actor Sandra Bullock has filed for divorce to end her five-year marriage to Jesse James, she told Peoplemagazine in remarks published on its website yesterday.

She also said she had adopted a son, 3½-month-old Louis Bardo Bullock, and she now planned to raise him as a single mother.

James, a custom motorcycle manufacturer and reality TV star, said last month that he took full responsibility for his actions, although he did not comment on allegations of an affair with a California tattoo model. – (Reuters)

Ahmadinejad to get visa for US

UNITED NATIONS – Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will likely be granted a visa to attend the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference that opens in New York next week, US officials said yesterday.

State department spokesman PJ Crowley confirmed that the applications for Mr Ahmadinejad and his delegation had been submitted in Berne, Switzerland.

“We have certain responsibilities as the host of the UN,” Mr Crowley said. – (Reuters)

Israelis kill man at Gaza border

GAZA – Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian who approached the Gaza Strip border yesterday to demonstrate against a no-go buffer zone imposed there by Israel, witnesses and hospital officials said.

They said the 20-year-old was shot as he and scores of other protesters planted Palestinian flags in the ground near the border fence, east of Gaza City.

Some threw stones, drawing gunfire from an Israeli patrol on the far side of the fence.
