Inquest hears baby died after attic lift fall
A file will be sent to the DPP following the death of a one-year-old baby girl who was fatally injured at home when an attic lift collapsed.
Baby Chrizina Johnson of Boroimhe, Blackthorn, Swords, Co Dublin, died at the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin, on July 8th, 2010.
A postmortem found she died of a head injury.
A Garda investigation file is almost complete, which will be forwarded to the DPP, Insp Pat Leahy of Coolock Garda station told an inquest into the baby’s death which was opened and adjourned at Dublin City Coroner’s Court yesterday.
Inspector Leahy told coroner Dr Brian Farrell that all gardaí are waiting for in relation to the file was a copy of the postmortem, which the coroner said he would release to the Garda yesterday morning.
Addressing the baby’s parents, coroner Dr Brian Farrell said he was unable to make any comment as a file was going to the DPP.
The coroner adjourned the inquest to a date in January 2011.
Keith Gillespie deemed bankrupt
Former Northern Ireland soccer international Keith Gillespie has been declared bankrupt.
An order was made against the former Manchester United and Newcastle United winger following a petition by HM Revenue and Customs Commissioners.
A High Court document disclosed yesterday confirmed a decision was taken on the basis of evidence from a solicitor for the petitioning creditor.
It states that Keith Robert Gillespie, of Ballycrochan Avenue, Bangor, Co Down, was adjudged bankrupt on September 22nd.
The document sets out that the Official Receiver has been appointed manager of his estate.
Woman guilty in rugby charter case
A 37-year-old woman will be sentenced later this year in connection with illegally chartering aircraft to bring Munster rugby fans to European matches.
Pamela Hickey, of Ashford, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday to a total of three charges.
She has admitted two counts of chartering the services of Monarch Airlines by deception on dates in September 2004 and January 2005. She pleaded guilty to a third charge of forgery on January 14th, 2005, contrary to the Criminal Justice and Theft Act.
BMW recalls 530 cars over brakes
BMW is recalling 350,000 cars, 533 in Ireland, due to possible brake problems.
The cars affected are petrol-engined V8 and V12 models of the 5-Series, 6-Series and 7-Series, along with cars from the Rolls Royce brand.
The cars were built between 2001 and 2009.
Drivers will notice a gradual reduction in brake pressure, requiring them to press harder on the brake pedal. BMW says that customers will be contacted and asked to bring their car to a dealership.
