Body of man found in river during search for missing youth
The body of a man in his 60s has been found by Naval Service divers in the river Moy in Ballina, Co Mayo, during a continued search for a 19-year-old youth who has been missing for 10 days. It is understood that the man had been assisting in the shore search for the youth, who was last seen when he fell off a bridge over the Moy on March 13th.
The man’s death is being treated as accidental. He had not been reported missing before his body was found yesterday. It is thought he may have been in the water for less than 48 hours.
Naval Service divers are continuing the search for the youth.
Law graduate to replace Higgins
Joe Higgins's seat in the European Parliament will be filled by Paul Murphy, who worked as a political adviser to the former MEP in Brussels.
Mr Higgins was elected to the Dáil in the Dublin West constituency last month.
Mr Murphy (27), a UCD law graduate, said he would oppose the EU/IMF bailout deal and "organise a campaign of mass non-payment across Dublin of threatened water charges and property taxes".
Teen released in murder inquiry
One of seven teenagers arrested in relation to the murder of David Byrne in Inchicore, Dublin, on Saturday was yesterday released without charge.
Six other teenagers, five boys and one girl, remained in custody last night.
Seven teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 17 years were arrested by gardaí on Tuesday in a series of operations when gardaí called to a number of houses in Drimnagh.
