And meanwhile, there was a strong political representation at the opening including Minister fir Arts and Culture Michael D. Higgins, Minister for Health Michael Noonan, Gerry Collins and John Cushnahan.
The museum's collection contains more than 2,000 exhibits, including work by Picasso, Renoir, Yeats and a bronze sculpture by Leonardo Da Vinci.
The astounding collection was put together by John and Gertrude Hunt between the 1920s and 1960s, and the opening was attended by their children John and Trudy Hunt as well as by Tony Ryan, University of Limerick President Ed Walsh and Michael O'Suilleabhain, Professor of Music at University of Limerick.
