The European Medicines Agency has recalled a HIV drug after was found to be contaminated with a substance that could cause cancer.
Viracept, which is manufactured by Roche, is an antiretroviral agent for use in first-line HIV therapy. Batches of the drug have been reportedly contaminated with a genotoxic substance.
A genotoxic substance is one that can affect the genes, which can lead to cancer.
Britain's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said patients prescribed Viracept "should contact their doctor immediately".

A spokesman said it was not yet clear if batches of the drug had been contaminated deliberately.
