Strong gale-force winds caused widespread disruption to ferry crossings between Dun Laoghaire and Holyhead yesterday and could cause further disruption today.

All Stena Line sailings on the route were cancelled as Met Eireann warned of strong winds today. Irish Ferries services from Dublin Port and Rosslare ran as usual, as did the Stena Challenger service from Dublin Port. Irish Ferries reported some delays in ferries reaching Holyhead.

Weather forecasters expected the strong winds which caused disruption yesterday to move south and that the gusts would then move westerly, causing renewed problems for ferries. Gusts reached 70 m.p.h. in Bel mullet, Co Mayo, yesterday evening and storm-force winds are expected along the Connacht to Ulster coast today.
