Lleyton Hewitt of Australia clinched the ATP Champions race title with his win in the closing Masters finals in Sydney at the weekend.
Hewitt finished nearly 100 points ahead of last year's winner Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil, with third place going to Andre Agassi.
Agassi had led for the early part of the year thanks to his win in the Australia Open in January.
Kuerten then moved top when he lifted the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, the French Open in June.
The Brazilian opted out of Wimbledon, won by Goran Ivanisevic, but still seemed likely to retain his Champions Race title until Hewitt won the US Open in September and mounted a late charge.
Kuerten failed to win a match at Sydney while Hewitt wrapped up the points he needed before he made it to the final where he defeated Sebastien Grosjean of France. - AFP
