The Third World Aid Agency, Bothar, is to air-lift in-calf heifers to Tirana, Albania, in early December. The Limerick-based body recently flew 70 in-calf heifers from Shannon to Tirana. The heifers came from 12 counties and were donated by farming families, community groups, schools and sports clubs.

According to a spokesman for Bothar, the project was part of the response to the call for help during the Kosovan crisis. The in-calf dairy heifers were distributed to Albanian peasant farmers who are still housing Kosovan refugees.

Bothar is looking for more in-calf dairy heifers and the funds to fly them to Albania.
