Former Conservative Prime Minster Sir Edward Heath's evidence to the Bloody Sunday Inquiry was postponed today for medical reasons.

Sir Edward (86) fell on Sunday and his doctors have advised him to rest. He was not seriously hurt.

An inquiry spokesman said: "Sir Edward fell outside Salisbury Cathedral on Sunday. He has been advised on medical grounds not to give evidence this week or next.

"Therefore, in view of the fact that he was to appear for three weeks we will reschedule his evidence for the new year."

Sir Edward was Prime Minister when paratroopers shot dead 13 unarmed men on a Derry civil rights march on January 30th, 1972. He was due to appear before the Saville Inquiry on Wednesday.
