Consumers are likely to have to pay increased costs due to rising fuel prices, a spokesman for the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has warned.

Jimmy Quinn, spokesman for the IRHA, said further fuel price increases will have a catastrophic effect on the Irish economy.

"Fuel prices are obviously a key part of our operating costs, and though many of us have absorbed the cost of fuel costs in recent months and years, we can no longer afford to do so," Mr Quinn said.

He added the IRHA was seeking to meet with Government ministers in the coming weeks to illustrate the hardships caused by fuel price increases.
