Padraig Harrington looked thoroughly fed up as his European Order of Merit title hopes suffered a succession of further setbacks in Spain today.

Padraig Harrington left himself a real mountain to climb with a second round 76 in the Volvo Masters at Valderrama in Spain today.

Less than €27,000 behind Retief Goosen at the top of the Order of Merit entering this the final event, Harrington slumped to the eight over par total of 150.

Goosen is only three ahead of him after a 74 that contained what he described as probably his worst golf of the season, but the South African is now odds-on to retain his money list crown.

Harrington, winner of the tournament last year in Jerez, needs to finish in the top 27 even if Goosen finishes in last place, but with three hours left in the day's play he was only just inside the top 50.

"Golf can change overnight, but I've got no confidence on the greens at the moment and I just didn't play well," Harrington said.

"I didn't do anything right and it was just one of those days."

A bogey at the first - the hole where he received a two-stroke penalty yesterday for illegally repairing a pitch mark that was off the green - sent him off on the wrong foot and he had to wait until the long 17th for his first birdie.

By then he had also bogeyed the fourth, seventh, ninth and 10th, and after pitching to two feet to pick up a shot on 17 he hit a tree off the final tee and bogeyed that.

Goosen's only birdie was also at the 17th and he double-bogeyed the short 12th, going into sand and over the green and then missing a five-foot putt.

The second round leaders were only just setting off at this point and Argentinian Angel Cabrera, four clear overnight following his dazzling 63, moved five ahead with a two on the 187-yard third.

Ryder Cup hero Phillip Price was joined in second place by fellow Welshman Bradley Dredge.
