When you are in Clifden eating at Destry's and High Moors (see opposite, Weekend 13), don't miss Eileen Halliday's fine shop, the Connemara Hamper, on Market Street, especially if you are renting a house near the town for a late holiday and need to find good foods.
It is a tiny little space, and it is crammed with good things, from Illy coffee to Parma ham to Irish cheeses (including the fine and rare Bluebell Falls cheese from Co Clare). There is De Cecco pasta, Helena chocolates, and a splendid selection of exotica: this is where you will find harissa, and Japanese rice cakes and Maldon salt.
