A 10-year-old child who was attacked and injured by a dog is to be paid £35,916 in settlement of her High Court action against the dog's owners. Claire Haughney, suing by her mother, Ms Pauline Haughney of Coon West, Kilkenny, brought the action against Paul and Noreen Kinsella, the dog's owners, also of Coon West.

The case was not opened to the court and no evidence was given. Mr Justice Quirke ruled that the award be held in court until Claire is 18. It was claimed that on August 6th, 1997, Claire was viciously attacked by a fox terrier owned by the defendants. She received lacerations of her right forearm and other injuries.
