Shock, disappointment and anger dominated German media reaction after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Ireland at the World Cup finals.
"From World Cup heaven into hell," ran the headline in today's Berliner Kurierwhile BZtried to rally the squad with: "Enough messing around, Rudi".
German confidence had been riding high in the run-up to the game and the three-time world champions were just one minute away from reaching the second round when Robbie Keane equalised in injury-time.
Bildnewspaper praised striker Miroslav Klose, who scored his fourth goal of the finals, and Oliver Kahn, who made several good saves to deny Ireland all three points.
But Bildadded: "The rest were rubbish".
"Welcome back to earth. After the 8-0 goal rush against Saudi Arabia, Germany gets a sobering 1-1 draw against Ireland," it said.
While disappointed about the result, Bildremained confident Germany would progress to the second round.
"A point will probably be enough. Goal difference will count," it said.
"A German team has never gone home after the first round. It's up to them to stop it happening this time - by beating Cameroon if possible." Germany play Cameroon on Tuesday.
