A German court has ruled that police here were wrong to have stormed a local mosque without a proper search warrant after an urgent call from a witness claiming Osama bin Laden was on the premises.
The prosecutor's office had issued an emergency search warrant without the normally required court approval in July due to the "imminent danger" posed by the possible presence of the world's most wanted man.
But the court ruled there had been insufficient evidence of a danger to justify the raid.
The Islamic community in Germany, based in Munich, filed an official complaint after the operation and demanded damages from the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office.
It said that officers had broken a number of doors and soiled a carpet when they burst into the building.
The court ruled, however, that the prosecutor's office are not required pay compensation.
