A SURE sign that the summer has ended is the return of Gay Byrne to the radio, which takes place this week. He will feature with Pat Kenny and Marian Finucane on a different schedule introduced by RTE to counter the expected competition from the new station, Radio Ireland, due in the spring.

Following Morning Ireland and the 9 a.m. news, Today With Pat Kenny will be on air from today in the old Gay Byrne time slot. For nearly two hours, Pat Kenny will present features, light entertainment, outside broadcasts, sport and music. The show will also feature some current affairs.

Gay Byrne will be on air from Wednesday to Friday each week between 11 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Gareth O'Callaghan will be filling this time slot on Monday and Tuesday each week.

Other changes in the radio schedule include a drive time programme to replace Today At Five.
