Police in the North have asked the gardaí for help in searching for a sex offender who is considered to pose a risk of causing harm.

Ernest George Finlay (53), who is in the highest category risk bracket, went missing after failing to comply with his post-custody release conditions.

Members of the public have been urged not to approach him but instead to contact the police immediately.

Finlay is described as being around 5ft 8ins, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair.

The offender also has a small gap between his upper two front teeth and has several tattoos, three of which are on his arms, among them a picture of a horse’s head.

The PSNI has appealed to Finlay to hand himself in at the nearest police station.

A new cross-border agreement to share information on sex offenders will be scrutinised today.

Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern is meeting his northern counterpart Paull Goggins to review a new cross-border agreement to share information on sex offenders.

The agreement, which was signed last month by An Garda Siochana and the PSNI enables both forces to pass knowledge between jurisdictions in relation to the investigation of sexual offences and the monitoring of convicted offenders.
