Gardai in Dublin are investigating two separate incidents in which hoax devices were found under parked cars.

Houses in Rathmines were evacuated early this morning after a suspicious object was found under a vehicle on the Upper Rathmines Road.

Garda cordoned off the area shortly after 12.10am and army bomb disposal experts were called in to examine the device.

It was declared a hoax a short time later, a Garda said.

Separately,as a result of another call to the Garda Communications Centre at about 10.50pm last night, a suspicous object was found under a vehicle at Rutland Grove/Avenue.

Gardaí from Sundrive Road cordoned off the area and began an evacuation of houses and the services of the army bomb disposal team were requested.

"They arrived at the scene and examined the device and it was declared a hoax shortly after midnight. It has now been forwarded to the Garda Technical Bureau for examination," a Garda statement said.

Gardai appealed for anyone with information about either incident to contact them.
