Gardaí have arrested three prison officers as part of an investigation into the alleged smuggling of "illicit" goods into prisons in Dublin.

A Garda spokesman confirmed the three men had been arrested by gardaí this morning. The men are detained at Garda stations in Dublin and Kildare, he said.

The Irish Prison Service confirmed that three prison officers had been arrested.

It has been reported that the investigation involves the alleged smuggling of mobile phones for prisoners.
