The Gaelic Players Association’s (GPA) decision to boycott national media coverage of Sunday week’s Munster hurling and Leinster football finals is likely to be followed by further disruption in the coming weeks.

The GPA is currently in a recognition dispute with the GAA and with the association being perceived to be stalling on the matter, its members have chosen not to cooperate with the TV3 and RTE coverage of the two games.

If next week’s action fails to force the GAA's hand, GPA chief executive Dessie Farrell insists there would be further disruption from members in weeks to come.

“Suffice it to say that it will vary from week to week,” said the former Dublin footballer.

“We’re 10 years in existence and we’ve negotiated under five different presidents and still no real progress has been made,” added Farrell. “Players feel and have indicated very clearly to us that enough is enough and it’s time to take some action.”

Farrell also revealed there is pressure from members to convene an extraordinary general meeting “to address certain issues”.

The GAA reacted today with an official statement saying it was “disappointed by the action planned”.
