The body of a 20-year-old man was found on a minor road at Lemgare, near Clontibret, Co Monaghan, at 7.30 am yesterday, apparently the victim of a hit-and-run.

He was identified last night as Fintan Treanor.

A 19-year-old man was killed yesterday in a two-car crash near the village of Kilmaine, in south Mayo, while on an early morning journey to milk cows for a local farmer.

He was named locally as Jonathan Munroe, the eldest of a family of eight who lived in Kilmaine.

The driver of the second car was not seriously injured.

In Co Tyrone, a 19-year-old man was killed when a car crashed on the Ballynagowan Road in Stewartstown.

The driver was named as Michael McKiver. The accident was reported to police at about 8am yesterday.

On Saturday, a man in his mid-20s was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the N52 Mullingar to Tullamore road, south of Mullingar, at about 4.40pm.

The man, who had been driving one of the cars, was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital but died later.

Two men in the second car were also taken to hospital, but their injuries are described as not life-threatening.
