London - Five people were arrested during scuffles with police as protesters against the arms trade demonstrated outside the Defence Systems Equipment International arms show in Chertsey, Surrey, yesterday, reports Rachel Donnelly.

Chanting "shame on you" and holding banners which read, "Stop Deals in Death", and "Solidarity with East Timor", up to 200 protesters gathered outside the entrance to Britain's largest arms fair. The scuffles broke out as some of the protesters attempted to break through police lines at the entrance, and the man was arrested after he chained himself to the undercarriage of a parked minibus.

Speaking to the demonstrators the Labour MP, Mr Jeremy Corbyn, condemned the Foreign Secretary, Mr Robin Cook, for allowing arms sales to repressive regimes to continue.
