Gardaí are investigating an attack on a team of firefighters in Limerick last night as they dealt with an eve of May bonfire.
One firefighter sustained serious facial injuries when he was struck by a glass bottle.
The incident occurred while the firemen fought the blaze near Geraldine’s Football Club in Garryowen. The fire crew came under attack shortly after 9pm.
Gardaí and an ambulance crew were alerted. The fireman was treated by paramedics. It is understood he was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

“They busted up his face really bad. A bottle was flung at the flames and it hit the fireman,” said a bystander.
