The Financial Regulator has issued a warning about an unauthorised firm claiming to be authorised by it to do business in Ireland.
Cyrus Rushwood & Associates Limited has claimed on its website, www.cyrusrushwood.com, that it is authorised by the Financial Regulator under the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995.
The firm holds no authorisation from the Financial Regulator, however.
Furthermore, although the firm claims to be based in the United States, it does not hold any authorisation from the SEC.
The Regulator has no evidence that the firm has attempted to target Irish consumers, but it appears that information appearing on www.cyrusrushwood.com has been copied from the website of a firm that is fully authorised by the Financial Regulator and has no connection with Cyrus Rushwood.
The matter has been passed to the gardaí and US authorities. Consumers wishing to confirm the authorisation status of firms may do so by calling the Financial Regulator on 1890-200469.
