THE Fianna Fail defence spokesman, Mr Michael Smith, has protested at the sending home of a young garda from peacekeeping duties in Cyprus over remarks made at a social function.
In a statement, Mr Smith said the action, which arose over remarks made at a function attended by the Minister for Defence, Mr Barrett, on St Patrick's Day, was outrageous. "The fact that the young garda's apology, and the apology made on his behalf by a senior garda, was not enough for the Minister, smacks of arrogance," said Mr Smith.
It is understood the garda asked Mr Barrett about allowances for overseas duties and went on to say Fianna Fail would sort out the problem when the party got back into office.
