The father of an 18-year-old fisherman who drowned in Howth Harbour in March 1998 has been awarded £8,665 damages in Dublin Circuit Civil Court.
Mr Pat Dwyer, counsel for Mr William O'Neill, Knockenrahan, Arklow, Co Wicklow, told Judge Michael White that Mr O'Neill's son, John, had died in an accident while the boat on which he worked was moored in Howth.
He said that on March 18th, 1998, Mr O'Neill had gone out for a few drinks. On the way back he had to pass over another boat and it appeared he had lost his footing and had fallen into the water and drowned.
