Farmers for No warn of threat to Cap funding

AGRICULTURE:FARMERS HAD no reason to vote for the treaty, the Farmers for No group claimed yesterday.

David Thompson, representing the group, said the threat to the funding of the Common Agricultural Policy from the treaty, and the wider approach to the crisis in Europe, was very real.

Mr Thompson warned that looking at the treaty in isolation was “a foolish approach that is leading many farmers to make a poor decision”.

He said that last week the German opposition, which was soon likely be in government, made it clear that the Cap was on the table as a source of funds for Europe’s banks.

“We know that EU politicians are committed to this disastrous strategy of bailing out failed banks.”
