The Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has won a major victory in Europe

The Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has won a major victory in Europe. In a press release headed "Commission gives in to Nicholson", he announced that after months of pressure: "The European Commission has finally conceded that its highly popular schools' publication What exactly is Europe has misrepresented the number of Protestants in the UK."

When Nicholson discovered that the booklet for 11- to 14year-olds, "made the remarkable claim that there are no Protestants in the UK", he complained to the Commission, raised the matter in the European Parliament and finally tabled a question to the Culture Commissioner, Marcelino Oreja. The Commission refused to take his complaint seriously until Oreja was involved and he has now assured Nicholson that the publication will be reprinted to include details of the correct number of Protestants in the UK. "This publication simply confirmed many people's perceptions of the propagandist role of the EU and I am glad that the Commission have finally accepted my arguments." So there.
