THE HAGUE - The Dutch Prime Minister, Mr Wim Kok, yesterday said the Dutch would decide in early May, after the British general elections, whether an extra EU summit will be held in Maastricht in May.
Mr Kok said the British election was not the only reason for the delay, but did not specify any other reasons.
Earlier yesterday, Mr Kok's spokesman had said the decision on the summit would most likely take place at a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg on April 29th-30th. The Dutch Foreign Ministry has cited May 23rd as the most likely date for a special summit. Mr Kok signalled in early March that a special summit was being considered ahead of a scheduled Amsterdam meeting on June 16th-17th.
